The Living Vriksha: A Tribute to the Divine Nature of Love.
In the teachings of our beloved Sri Pundrik Goswami ji Maharaj , the material world is often likened to a flickering shadow, while the soul’s true nature is found in the eternal flourshing garden of Bhakti. As we approach the 20th of July, a day we celebrate not merely as a birthday but as Tree Day in honor of his divine appearance, we contemplate the tree not as a silent observer, but as the ultimate sadguru and the perfect embodiment of Prem (Divine Love).
The Cultivation of the Heart
Love is not a transactional emotion; it is an organic, spiritual evolution. It blooms under the constant sunshine of Satsang (holy association), takes root in the fertile soil of Vishwas (unwavering trust), and is nourished by the cooling rain of Bhav (devotion).
In this world, souls approach the “tree” of life with varying intentions. Many seek only the wood the fuel for their material desires—or perhaps temporary shade to escape the scorching heat of worldly anxiety. Others, like the predator, perch upon the branches of relationships, seeking only to satisfy their own ego.
However, the true sadhaka approaches with a different vision. He seeks the Phal (fruit) of divine nectar. He understands that this fruit is not for his own gratification, but nourishment for the soul, providing the very seed that allows the tree of Bhakti to expand into future generations. This is the essence of Seva ,to nurture the source so that the Divine message may flourish eternally.
Rootedness in the Eternal
Sri Pundrik Goswami Ji Maharaj teaches us that in this Asat (unreal/temporary) world, the only stability lies in being deeply rooted. When one treats the material world as wood,something to be harvested, used, and discarded once the utility ends—one remains subject to the cycles of destruction.
Yet, when we remain connected to our Mula (the Root: our Guru and the lotus feet of Krishna), we become invincible. Like a tree that draws strength from the deep earth, the devotee who is grounded in lineage and tradition cannot be uprooted by the storms of Maya. To be “rooted” is to remain steadfast in the identity of being a servant of the servant of the Divine, providing a stability that no material calamity can dismantle.
The Epitome of Nishkama Seva
A tree is the greatest practitioner of Nishkama Seva (selfless service). Whether it provides shade to the traveler, medicine to the sick, or fruit to the hungry, it gives without condition and without ever asking, “Who are you?”
This is the true definition of Prem. Sri Pundrik Goswami Ji Maharaj reminds us that wherever there is a demand, there is Kama (lust/desire). Where there is only the desire to give, there is Love.
The Guru and our parents are exactly like this tree. They endure the harshness of the elements—the heat, the storms, and the winters of this material existence ,yet they continue to provide, protect, and nourish. They ask for nothing but our spiritual growth. On this auspicious Tree Day, let us pledge to emulate this spirit: to become trees ourselves, offering the shade of compassion, the medicine of holy words, and the fruit of devotion to all who cross our path.
