आत्मा और महात्मा में भेद क्या है? आत्मा से महत्मत्व तक की यात्रा यहीं पर घटित होती है सामान्य व्यक्ति कौन है जिसका शरीर पृथ्वी जल वायु आकाश से बना है पर महत्मत्व क्या है जिसके स्वभाव में इन पंच महाभूतों के गुण भी हैं।
आपमें पृथ्वी है पर क्या आपमें पृथ्वी का गुण है? आपमें इस पृथ्वी की औदार्यता है? आपमें इस पृथ्वी की शीलता है? आपमें इस पृथ्वी की विकासमानता है? पृथ्वी का एक सफल गुण है धैर्य। पृथ्वी का एक सफल गुण है आश्रय। ये वसुन्धरा आश्रय देती है सबको। और एक बहुत सुंदर गुण है पृथ्वी का क्षमा। कोई खोदे भी तो क्षमा कर देती है। पृथ्वी का एक सुंदर गुण है विकासशीलता। कोई बीज डाले वो उसे पेड़ बनाकरके दै देती है।
ये व्यक्ति के सामर्थ्य पर निर्णय होता है पृथ्वी मात्र विज्ञान से इतना तो सीखा जा सकता है कि सम्पूर्ण वेद हमारे सामने प्रकट हो जाए। पृथ्वी भगवान की प्रिया हैं। धर्म का सबसे बड़ा स्वरूप है धैर्य। धर्म का वास्तविक परिचय होता है किसी व्यक्ति के धैर्य से। आप धैर्यवान कितने हैं इससे पता चलेगा कि आप धर्मवान कितने हैं।

What is difference between Atman and Mahatma? Through the Atman we accomplish the journey up to the Supreme Consciousness. An ordinary human being is made of these five elements i.e., earth, water, air, ether or the sky and fire but the Mahatma though being made of these five principal elements, has imbibed their qualities in his/her life.
Your body comprises of the earth element but do have the qualities of earth? Do you have the magnanimity of the earth in your nature? Do you possess its virtues or ‘Sheel’? Do you have the temperament of expansion or if I may say that nature to accept one and all? One great quality of the earth is fortitude or patience. Another great quality of earth is shelter. This mother earth provides shelter or refuge to one and all! Another unique quality of earth is to pardon. Even if someone digs its bosom, it excuses the person. One more quality of earth is that it is very progressive or it is constantly growing. If someone sows a seed, it gives a plant in return.
This depends on the capacity of the individual that how much can he/she master the science so that the entire Veda can appear in front of him/her! The earth or ‘Prithvi’ is our Mother and she is Lord’s beloved. One of the foremost quality of Dharma is patience or fortitude. We can know how ‘Dharmic’ the person is from his/her patience! If you have patience, then it proves that you follow Dharma!

श्री पुण्डरीक जी सूत्र (२१-०६-२०२३)
आत्मनः महात्मस्य च कः भेदः ? आत्मातः महत्त्वपर्यन्तं यात्रा अत्र भवति। कः सामान्यः पुरुषः यस्य शरीरं पृथिवी-जल-वायु-आकाश-निर्मितं, किन्तु किं महत्त्वम्, यस्य स्वभावस्य अपि एतेषां पञ्चमहातत्त्वानां गुणाः सन्ति।
भवतः पृथिवी अस्ति, परन्तु भवतः पृथिव्याः गुणाः सन्ति वा? किं भवतः अस्याः पृथिव्याः उदारता अस्ति ? किं भवतः अस्याः पृथिव्याः विनयः अस्ति ? किं भवतः अस्याः पृथिव्याः विकासः अस्ति ? पृथिव्याः एकः सफलः गुणः धैर्यम् अस्ति । आश्रयः पृथिव्याः सफलः गुणः अस्ति । अयं वसुन्धरः सर्वेभ्यः शरणं ददाति। अतीव सुन्दरः गुणः च पृथिव्याः क्षमा। कश्चित् खनति चेदपि सा क्षमति। विकासः पृथिव्याः सुन्दरः गुणः अस्ति । यदि कश्चित् बीजं रोपयति तर्हि तत् वृक्षं कृत्वा ददाति ।
मनुष्यस्य बलेन एव निर्णयः भवति, केवलं पृथिवीविज्ञानात् एतावत् किमपि ज्ञातुं शक्यते यत् सम्पूर्णाः वेदाः अस्माकं समक्षं प्रकाशिताः भवन्ति। पृथिवी ईश्वरस्य प्रियः अस्ति। धैर्यं धर्मस्य बृहत्तमं रूपम् अस्ति। धर्मस्य वास्तविकः परिचयः व्यक्तिस्य धैर्यात् एव भवति । भवन्तः कियत् धैर्यं धारयन्ति इति दर्शयिष्यति यत् भवन्तः कियत् धार्मिकाः सन्ति।
