हम अपने को अपने स्वामी का दास मानते हैं पर उसके प्रति भी हम अभिमान का प्राकट्य न करें। अभिमानी न बनें। यहाँ एक सूक्ष्म बात छिपी है दास कौन है जब स्वामी कहे तुम मेरे दास हो तो दास हो। हम तो दिनभर कहते रहते हैं हम आपके दास हम आपके दास। कहीं न कहीं उसके पीछे भी हमारी यश की लोलुपता तो नहीं छिपी है…?? हम अपनी सरलता को तो नहीं प्रमाणित करना चाहते..??
मेरी सेवा की ये सफलता नहीं है कि मैं स्वामी से कहुँ मैं आपका दास बल्कि उस दिन मेरी सेवा सार्थक हो जाएगी जिस दिन स्वामी कहेंगे ये मेरा दास है। ये दास की सेवा की पूर्णता है जब स्वामी उसे अपना निजी मान ले।
दास शब्द को अलग अर्थों में मत लीजिएगा। हमारी गौड़ीय सम्प्रदाय में सबसे बड़ी उपाधि है दासत्व की। ये उपाधि कौन स्वीकार करता है हमारे सम्प्रदाय के इष्ट प्राण पूज्य श्रीचैतन्य महाप्रभु। उनसे पूछा आप कौन हो ? बोले- गोपिर्भर्तुरपद कमलयोर दास दासानुदास ।।

If we consider ourselves to be the servant or ‘Dasa’ of our Swami then this has to be devoid of any sense of pride. We should not harbor any sort of pride! One point is to be noted here that you are a ‘Dasa’ when the master accepts you as his ‘Dasa’. Most commonly, people go on beating their drum that we are your ‘Dasa’, we are your ‘Dasa’! Is it that the desire of attaining glory is lurking behind this proclamation….??
Or, the effort is to project yourself as being humble…??
It is not the fulfilment of service that you need to shout out loud saying you are the servant of your Master, instead the Master should declare with a sense of satisfaction that you are His trusted servant! The service of the ‘Dasa’ will seem to have fructified when the Master of His own volition accepts the ‘Dasa’ to be His own!
Please don’t misinterpret the word ‘Dasa’. In our ‘Gaudiya’ sect, we attach a lot of importance to this servitude! Our Supreme Deity or ‘Ishtha’, the soul of our sect, ‘Poojyapada Chaitanya Mahaprabhuji’ openly declares His servitude. He was asked, ‘Who are you’? He replied, ‘Gopirbharturpaada kamalyor dasa dasaanudasa’||

वयं स्वामिनः दासाः मन्यामहे किन्तु तस्य प्रति अपि गर्वं न कर्तव्यम्। अभिमानं मा कुरुत। अत्र सूक्ष्मं वस्तु निगूढं कः दासः ? यदा स्वामी मां दासः इति वदति तदा त्वं दासः असि। वयं सर्वं दिवसं वदन्तः स्मः, वयं भवतः दासाः, वयं भवतः दासाः। अस्माकं यशः लोभः तस्य पृष्ठतः कुत्रचित् न निगूढः अस्ति…?? वयं अस्माकं सरलतां सिद्धं कर्तुम् न इच्छामः..??
मम सेवासिद्धिः न यत् अहं स्वामिनं वदामि यत् अहं तव दासः अस्मि, किन्तु मम सेवा सार्थकता भविष्यति यस्मिन् दिने स्वामिः मम दासः इति वदति। इति दाससेवासमाप्तिः यदा स्वामिना स्वकीयस्वीक्रियते।
दासशब्दं भिन्नार्थेषु मा गृह्यताम्। अस्माकं गौडिया सम्प्रदायस्य बृहत्तमं उपाधिं दासता अस्ति। एतत् उपाधिं कः स्वीकुर्वति ? हमारे सम्प्रदाय श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु के पूज्य आत्मा। तं पृष्टवान् त्वं कोऽसि ? कहा- गोपीरभरतुर्पाद कमलायोर दास दशानुदास।
