जिसकी उपासना है उस ईष्ट प्रति निष्ठा ही भक्ति को परिपक्व करती है। भक्ति क्या है? ईष्ट के प्रति अटूट निष्ठा। व्यवस्था का नाम भक्ति थोड़ी न है। ठाकुरजी ने कहा है- पत्रम् पुष्पम् फलम् तोयम्।। और क्या व्यवस्था चाहिए। बहुत बड़ी लम्बी चौड़ी व्यवस्था करना भक्ति नहीं है, ईष्ट के प्रति अटूठ निष्ठा ही भक्ति है। अब चाहे असुन्दर सुन्दर शेखरो वा।। अब विवाह हो गया तो चाहे जैसा भी हो निभाना तो पड़ेगा ही।
जैसे पण्डित जी बैठकर दो जनों का हाथ थामके रिश्ता बना देते हैं एक ही स्त्री अपने रक्त गोत्र आदि का दान करके कन्या दान का मतलब गोत्र का दान करके आती है उसी प्रकार गुरुदेव भी मंत्र दीक्षा देकर एक प्रकार से भगवान के साथ हमारा पुष्टि मार्ग का शब्द है ब्रह्म सम्बन्ध बना देते हैं।
ब्रह्मसम्बन्ध बन गया, अब तो इसका निर्वाह करना पड़ेगा। ईष्ट की निष्ठा ही भक्ति है। ईष्ट की निष्ठा होगी तो आप जो भी करोगे वो भक्ति होगी। आपका स्नान करना भी भक्ति हो जाएगी। मन में विचार आए कि जल्दी से नहा लें और जाकर श्रीराधारमण का दरशन करें। निष्ठा पक्की है तो अपना नहाना भी भक्ति हो गयी।
कई लोग कहते हैं महाराज! हम रोज एक घण्टा भक्ति करते हैं। अरे भले आदमी! कोई समय से भक्ति थोड़ी न बंधी है, कोई संख्या से भक्ति थोड़ी न बंधी है कि हम एक साल तक इनकी भक्ति करी, हमने इतनी माला करी।
श्रीहरिदास ठाकुर तीन लक्ष नाम जप करते हैं। यहाँ तीन लक्ष नाम जप का मतलब तीन लाख तो है ही है पर और भी है लक्ष शब्द का अर्थ होता है-
अभिदेय, प्रयोजन, सम्बन्ध।
एक बार भी
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे।
हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।।
कहते हुए सम्बन्ध अभिदेय और प्रयोजन इन तीन लक्ष्यों को जिसने निभा लिया उसके एक नाम पर भी तीन लाख नाम हो गए।
संख्या बड़ी थोड़ी न है। कोई सोचे हम संख्या बड़ी करते हैं तीन लाख श्रीहरिदास ठाकुर करते हैं और बहुत सारे महापुरुष करते हैं। भक्ति संख्या में थोड़ी न बंधी है। लक्ष शब्द का अर्थ होता है-
मंत्र का प्रारम्भ, मंत्र का मध्य, मंत्र का अंत।
पर मुख्य अर्थ सम्बन्ध अभिदेय और प्रयोजन ये चीज भक्ति की प्रधान सामाग्री है।
जैसे पण्डित जी ने सम्बन्ध बनाया, ये पति पत्नी तुम हो। ये सम्बन्ध।
प्रयोजन क्यों बनाया? शब्द आया धर्मपत्नी धर्म पति वंश वृद्धि के लिए। जो भी हो। मुख्य तो विवाह इसीलिए होता है। प्रेम तो चाहे जिसलिए हो। ये उसका प्रयोजन है। और अभिधेय क्या है?
अब उस सम्बन्ध को निभाने के लिए की गई सारी की सारी व्यवस्था। यही सम्बन्ध अभिधेय प्रयोजन है।
प्रश्न उठा, ठाकुरजी के साथ आपका क्या सम्बन्ध है? हाँ हम भगत हैं। अरे ये तो ऐसे ही हुआ, all Indians are my Brothers and Sisters. ये तो जीव ब्रह्म का सम्बन्ध है। ये तो सामान्य है कुछ खास बताओ तो
मीरा कहती है-
जाके सिर मोर मुकुट मेरोपति सोई॥

Bhakti becomes complete only when it is rooted in unwavering faith in our Ishta.
What is Bhakti? It is firm and unbreakable faith in our Ishtha. Devotion is not about elaborate rituals or grand arrangements. Lord Krishna has said: ‘Offer me a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water.’ What more do you need? Making large, complex arrangements is not devotion, steadfast faith in our chosen deity is devotion.
Just like in marriage, once you’re married, no matter if your spouse is beautiful or not, you have to live with commitment.
When a priest joins two people in marriage by joining their hands, and the bride offers her lineage or Gotra as a part of the marriage ritual, the Guru gives Mantra Diksha, which creates a sacred bond, in the Pushtimarg tradition it is called Brahma-Sambandh, the relationship with God.
Once this divine relationship is established, it must be maintained. Devotion is nothing but loyalty to our chosen deity. If we have this loyalty, then everything we do becomes an act of devotion. Even taking a bath becomes devotion if our intention is, ‘Let me bathe quickly and go for the darshsan of Shri Radharaman.’ This sincere intention makes our act of bathing also an act of devotion.
Many people say, ‘Maharajji! We do one hour of Bhakti every day.’ But my dear, Bhakti is not bound by time or numbers. You can’t measure it by saying, ‘I did Bhakti for a year,’ or ‘I did so much Japa.’
Saint Haridas Thakur used to do three lakhs Naam-Japa daily. But here, Lakhs or Laksh means more than just a number. The word Laksh also means;
Relationship or Sambandh.
Practice means Abhidheya and
Purpose means Prayojan.
Even if someone chants;
‘Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare’
just once, but with complete understanding and faith in all three, i.e. relationship, practice, and purpose, then just uttering once is equal to 300,000 Naam-Japa.
So, it is not about quantity. Some may think, ‘I chant three lakhs like Haridas Thakur and other great saints.’ But Bhakti doesn’t depend on numbers. Laksh also means the beginning, the middle and the end of a mantra.
However, the deeper meaning is; Relationship, Practice, and Purpose which are the core elements of Bhakti.
Just like a priest says during marriage, ‘You are now husband and wife’, that’s the relationship.
Why this relationship? To live a life of Dharma, raise a family and fulfilling all the responsibilities, that’s the purpose.
And all the efforts made to live and maintain that relationship is the practice.
So, what is your relationship with Lord Krishna? Someone may say, ‘We are devotees.’ But that’s like saying, ‘All Indians are my brothers and sisters.’ It’s too generic. Say something specific.
