कथा में प्रवेश करने के बाद सब वैष्णव हो जाते हैं। कोई किसी जाति का, कोई किसी वर्ण का, नहीं रहता सब वैष्णव हो जाते हैं। जिसके विष्णु हो गए हो, और जो विष्णु का हो गया हो, उसे वैष्णव कहते हैं। कथा कहने वाले से भी श्रेष्ठ सुनने वाला होता है। कथा में व्यास भगवत प्राप्ति में छोटा माना गया है, और श्रोता बड़ा माना गया है। भक्ति में भी सर्वश्रेष्ठ श्रवण ही माना गया है। *सियाराम में सब जग जानी करहुं प्रणाम जोरी जुग पानी*
हमारे अंदर जिस भी वस्तु का अभाव होता है, हम जब वह वस्तु दूसरे के अंदर देखते हैं तो उसका प्रभाव होता है। अगर वह वस्तु हमारे अंदर पहले से ही ज्यादा है, तो हम दूसरे से क्यों प्रभावित होंगे? ब्रज में अगर किसी का भरोसा सबसे ज्यादा है तो वह किशोरी जी का ही है थोड़ी सी भी उनकी कृपा मिल जाए। अगर हम प्रभावित हो रहे हैं तो बात दूर तक नहीं जाएगी। कथा उसे नहीं कहते जो प्रभावित करती है, कथा उसे कहते हैं जो प्रकाशित करती है। यह प्रभाव में नहीं, जैसे चांदी को हवा लगे तो उसके प्रभाव में वह काली हो जाती है। सोना चढ़े तो उसके प्रभाव में वह सोना हो जाती है। जैसे कोई कहे कि हमने सौ भागवत सुन ली है लेकिन कोई असर नहीं हुआ तो या तो देने वाला गलत है, या सुनने वाला गलत है, या जो हमारे भीतर जा रहा है वह गलत है। स्वर्ण प्रकाशित होता है उस पर किसी का प्रभाव नहीं पड़ता अगर हम कथा से प्रभावित हो रहे हैं, तो थोड़े दिन में बात बिगड़ जाएगी। हमारी रुचि कम हो रही है, तो हमें पता चल जाएगा।जिस दिन हमें यह बोध हो जाएगा *जीवेर स्वरूप होय नित्य कृष्ण दास*। यह प्रभाव में नहीं है अगर कृष्ण दासत्व प्रभाव में बना है, तो बदल जाएगा। चाहे गुरु के प्रति हो या इष्ट के प्रति हो बदल जाएगा। इसलिए *पानी पीजे छान के और गुरु कीजै जान के*।जिसको देखकर आपको हरि का अनुभव हो वही सही गुरु हैं। इसलिए गुरु कभी भी प्रभाव देखकर ना बनाएं।

Katha-Sutra:
Gauranga-Tattva Bhagavata Katha, Kolkata
Once we enter the precincts of the Katha, we all become Vaishnavas. No one is identified by caste or social order; no one remains defined by Jaati or Varna, every one becomes a Vaishnava. One whose life is surrendered and devoted to Lord Vishnu, is a Vaishnava.
The listener is even considered greater than the narrator of the Katha. In attaining salvation, the Katha Vyasa is regarded lower, while the listener is considered to be higher. In Bhakti, hearing or Shravana comes first.
“Siya Rama muya sab jaga jaani I
Karahu pranam jori jugg paani II”
When we see whatever is lacking within us in another person, it influences us. But if the same quality is already within us, we don’t get influenced. In Vraja, the highest trust is placed only on Shree Kishoriju and even a tiny spec of Her grace is enough to liberate us.
If we get influenced, it will not endure. The Katha illumines us, it is not just an influence. When silver is left exposed, it gets affected and blackens; when it is gold plated, it retains the golden hue. But pure gold is lustrous and is not altered by any external influence.
If someone says that he has heard a hundred Bhagavata Kathas, yet nothing has happened, then either the narrator is at fault or the listener is at fault or what is being heard is impure. Gold is self-luminous and is not affected by any outside influence. If we are being influenced by Katha, then in a short time it will dissipate. When our Ruchi or liking diminishes, we will attain self realisation.
The day we realize,
“Jeever swaroop hoye nitya Krishna das,”
we will understand that it is not a matter of influence. If we attain the servitude to Shree Krishna outwardly, it will change in no time. Whether toward the guru or toward one’s chosen deity or Ishta, it will inevitably change.
Therefore:
“Paani piyo chhaan kay, Guru karo jaan kay,” drink filtered water and surrender to the Guru once you are certain.
In Guru’s presence, we experience Hari. Therefore, never make someone your guru merely because of their influence.
