एकांत अगर तुम्हारा सावधान है तो तुमसे ऊँचा शिष्य दूसरा नहीं हो सकता। उपदेशामृत में श्रीपाद रूपगोस्वामी लिखते हैं-
वाचो वेगं मनसः क्रोधवेगं, जिह्वावेगमुदरोपस्थवेगम्
एतान्वेगान्यो विशेत् धीरः, सर्वामपिमां पृथिवी स शिष्यात्॥
इन वेगों को जिसने जीत लिया वही उत्तम शिष्य माना जाता है।
सभा में बोलते वक्त आदमी फिर भी सावधान रहता है, एकांत में कितना सावधान है? सारी सभा में तो अपने काम के वेग को रोक लेता है, एकांत में कितना सावधान रहता है? सबके बीच में लोभ करना कठिन होता है, एकांत में उसका लोभ कितना सावधान रहता है?
ये एक श्रेष्ठ शिष्यत्व का लक्षण है।
और मैं सत्य कहूँ जिस क्षण हमारे चरित्र में इस श्रेष्ठ शिष्यत्व का उत्स होगा, जानने की इच्छा, तीव्र जिज्ञासा इस रूप में परिणित होगी तो फिर सद्गुरु ढूँढना नहीं पड़ेगा, वो अपने आप हम सबके सामने प्रकट हो जाएगा।
यही उसका स्वरूप है।

If your ‘Ekanta’ or solitude is alert or well within control then you qualify as a perfect disciple. ‘Shreepaada Roopa Goswami ‘ writes in the ‘Updeshamrit’ –
‘Vaacho vayggam manasaha: krodhavayggam, jivhavaygamud ropasthavayggam aettanvaygganyo vishet dheeraha:, sarvaamapimaamprithavi sa shishyatt’ II
The one who has overcome these ‘Vayggas’ or forces shall be considered a distinguished disciple.
While speaking in a gathering, one is still careful and alert, how alert is he when he is in ‘Ekanta’? In the gathering he is able to control the onslaught of Kama, how careful is he when he is all alone? To be greedy in the midst of a lot of people is difficult, but is the greed in control when he is in ‘Ekanta’?
These are the characteristics of a great disciple.
Let me be honest about it that the moment these qualities of an ideal disciple arise within us, the eagerness to learn, a keen desire will get converted into this keenness to know then you won’t have to go out in search of a Sadguru, he will appear or if I may say that he shall incarnate in front of you.
This is his Swaroop!
