*दान की महिमा*
शास्त्रों में 12 प्रकार के दान की चर्चा है
1.सबसे पहले है जल का दान। किसी प्यासे को जल का दान सबसे उत्तम दान है
दूसरा है वृक्षारोपण करके छाया और वायु का दान। जब हम वृक्षारोपण करते हैं तो उसकी छाया और उसकी वायु किसी को प्रसन्न करती है तो यह उत्तम दान की श्रेणी में आता है।
तीसरा जो श्रेष्ठ दान है वह है दीपदान। शास्त्रों में दीपदान का बहुत महत्व बताया गया है
चौथा शास्त्रों में वर्णन आता है औषधि का दान। किसी बीमार व्यक्ति के निमित्त औषधि का दान भी महत्वपूर्ण माना गया है।
उसके बाद पांचवा आता है गईया का दान
गईया का दान का अपना ही महत्व है।
फिर शास्त्रों में छठा आता है विद्या का दान।
उसके बाद है अन्न का दान। पुरातन काल से ही अन्न का दान सबसे बड़ा दान माना गया है।
उसके बाद है मार्ग का दान
इसके बाद आता है
गृहदान।
एक और शास्त्र में वर्णन है घाट का दान
उसके बाद आता है द्रव्य का दान यानि सुख का दान।
और फिर अंतिम आता है कन्या का दान। कन्यादान का भी शास्त्रों में अपना महत्व बताया गया है।
एक सनातन धर्मी के लिए शास्त्रों में यह 12 प्रकार के दान का विकल्प है।

Katha Sutra:
The glory of ‘Daan’ or charity
Our scriptures declare 12 types of charity.
The first is ‘Jal-Daan’ or giving water to thirsty.
The second is afforestation. Expanding the green cover. When we plant trees the cool shade and the breeze whistling through provides shelter and comforts the weary.
The third is ‘Deep-Daan’. The scriptures proclaim the divinity of lighting the lamps or offering light.
The fourth is providing medicines and health care to the needy.
The fifth is ‘Go-Daan’ or giving cows in charity.
The sixth is teaching or sharing knowledge.
Next is the charity of the donation of food or feeding the hungry.
Then comes trying to guide or show the right path to the traveler.
Next is providing shelter or providing for a roof to the ones who live out in the open.
Another type of charity is constructing embankment on the rivers or lakes to facilitate bathing.
Then there is giving money or providing for the needy.
Finally, offering the daughter’s hand in marriage.
For all those who are the followers of Sanatana Dharma, these 12 types of charities are described in our scriptures.
